Caribou sits at the intersection of two of the most arguably complex industries: healthcare and finance. In the United States, these two topics have been historically segregated because those who are experts in one are often lost when it comes to the other. Stakeholders in the healthcare system are completely disconnected from the financial component of healthcare even though:

• Healthcare is the number one reason behind bankruptcies
• Healthcare spending accounts for 15% of one’s assets over the course of retirement for an average of $295,000, being one of the the biggest expenses for an individual
• Healthcare is currently the top financial concern for Americans

Someone with a fiduciary duty to protect people's financial well-being needs to be paying attention to healthcare. Financial professionals (wealth managers, banks, robo-advisors) want to advise on healthcare costs because they have come to realize that safeguarding one’s wealth isn’t just about investing it wisely. With technology like ours, they can now efficiently implement a healthcare planning offering in order to build stronger financial futures for their clients.

• We’re a strong team of about nine working fully distributed (ie. around the world). We all have full buy-in to a working style that values over-communication, trust, and documentation so that we can work asynchronously, but we also spend a lot of time together on Zoom doing things like pair programming, “flow” working sessions, or just playing game/eating meals.
• We have our official headquarters in San Francisco (where you’re welcome to come hang out).
• We value people who believe in our mission, align with our values (below), and are good problem solvers - what we’re working on isn’t easy and so it requires these three things!
